Why we exist
It's not a lack of talent.
It's a lack of access.
Black professionals remain significantly underrepresented in highly sought after career paths across Alberta and Western Canada, and too often, it's not a lack of talent or ambition holding them back, it's a lack of access. Access to mentorship, to networks, to the unwritten rules of how competitive industries actually work.
Black Vantage Point's mission is rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu, an African concept that speaks to our shared humanity: "I am because we are." It's the belief that our success is bound up in one another's.
We want to bring Black students, recent graduates, and experienced professionals in Alberta together with accomplished industry leaders across these lucrative industries for evenings of honest conversation, real career guidance, and genuine connection.
In the spirit of Ubuntu, we are building the bridge one relationship at a time, because when one of us moves forward, we all do.
Our philosophy
Ubuntu: “I am because we are.”
Mentorship, networks and the unwritten rules of an industry are usually passed along informally, person to person, to whoever already happens to be in the room. Ubuntu is the belief that none of us gets there alone — so we're building rooms where that knowledge gets passed to everyone, not just the well-connected few.
